Junior Basketball Team

Join the Junior Basketball Team

Here’s a little info for you to think about. I am not a qualified basketball coach merely an enthusiastic parent and am happy for any input.  Home School Heat came 3rd out of 8 teams last season (Term 3/4)

Age: Kids must be Year 5 / under 11.  We have had 8-10 year olds in our teams previously, mixed girls & boys (the kids are all wearing the same team colours and it is important they work as a team, not to favour gender).

Cost:  It is $495 for the season (Term 1 & 2) for the whole team which will be divided among the players.  HASCA usually subsidise $100 for the year (so if we use the whole subsidy for this term 1 & 2 season we won’t get it for the second half of the year). This gets spread between however many kids are playing (6 kids $66).  I’ve found that 6 or 7 on the team is plenty to get by on.  We have had 8 on the team before but because the games are only 20 mins long its tricky to get everyone playing enough game to make it worth it.  There is also a once a year contribution of $20 per player towards the uniforms.

You will need to join HASCA in order to play on the team.  Visit https://hasca.wordpress.com/joining-hasca/ to join.

Games:  First games start at 3.30pm but can be as late as 5.30.  20 min games, of 10 mins each way.  There are approximately 10 games over the season.

Scholastic Book Club issue #1

The 1st issue of Scholastic Book Club 2016 is here!

The brochures will be distributed over the next few days at usual places- the Millennium Swimming and Sports, Tuesday gymnastics, the monthly Cafe Night… OR you can pick up a set from the Homeschool Library (housed at the North Shore YMCA).

OR you can go online to view the brochures via https://hasca.wordpress.com/hasca-book-club/.

DUE DATE is: (5:00pm) Thursday, 3rd March 2016.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For some time, Scholastic has made provision for families to make and pay for their own orders online at the Scholastic LOOP online payment website (mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz).

While you can still drop the paper order form to me or email the order through to me, ordering via the LOOP website is now my preferred option. It’s a straightforward process to use the LOOP website and there’s a handy ‘How-To’ video if you do get stuck (but you won’t!). Any orders made on the LOOP website still have to be made under the school name of ‘HASCA Homeschool’ and the orders are still delivered to me to distribute to our families.

Some themes in Issue 1: Waitangi Day, Sea Week, Dictionaries, Horrible/Murderous sets and a fair bit of Star Wars (I wonder why…)

Netball Team update

Would you like to play netball this year?

Many of the HASCA’s Netball teams are in need of players to play in the 2016 season.

A team needs at least 7 but ideally 8 – 9 team members to play in the coming season.

*College Team 1 = 1 – 2 more girls needed. Best suited to a player with some recent experience but could also suit someone who has played another team sport and has good ball skills, agility and co-ordination. (age 14+)

*College Team 2 = 4 – 5 more girls needed to proceed. No experience necessary, beginners welcome.

*Year 9 Girls = 1 – 2 more spaces available

*Year 7/8 = 3 – 4 more players needed. Boys and girls welcome.

*Year 4/5 = 1 – 2 more players needed. Boys and girls welcome.

*Year 6 = No team as yet, 8 players needed to form a team. Boys and girls welcome.

Registrations close in March but the sooner spaces are filled the better to enable allocation of coaches, managers, uniforms, gear, practice days and planning of the season.

Fees are typically around $100 for the entire season. (terms 2 & 3) Fees include uniforms, equipment & gear, & NNH registration.

HASCA membership is required to join a HASCA team but anyone is welcome to join HASCA by paying an annual family membership of just $20.

Not Sure?

Come along to the Netball Open Day on March 9th and have a go to see if it’s your thing and to meet the 2016 players and coaches.

Netball Open Day

HASCA Netball – Open Day & Muster 2016

You’re All Invited!

This year we’re trying something a little different to give home educators a chance to ‘have a go’ at netball before the season starts. This will also give those already signed up for the 2016 season a chance to meet their team-mates and to have some netball fun together and finally it will give our co-ordinator a chance to finalize player and team numbers and get things ready for the season. (Setting fees, giving out uniforms, assigning coaches, sending out team lists, buying and giving out equipment etc…)

We invite all home educators in the following age groups to come along and have a go…

  • Primary year 4/5, approx ages 7 – 9 (Boys & Girls)
  • Primary year 6, approx ages 9.5 – 11 (Boys & Girls)
  • Intermediate year 7/8, approx ages 11 – 13 (Boys & Girls)
  • Year 9, approx ages 12 – 13 (Girls Only)
  • College years 10 – 13, approx ages 14 – 18 (Girls Only)

*Please note: We have teams available at 2 levels for the college competition:

Team 1 for players with at least 1 year of previous experience or for those with experience in another ball sport team which has gained them confidence in similar skills as needed for netball. (E.G: basketball or water-polo)
Team 2 for beginners or those with only a little experience.

Parents & New Coaches:
The Open Day will also be a great opportunity for parents & teens considering coaching to observe some drills and game action and discuss coaching requirements with existing coaches. Umpires will get to umpire a few games without any pressure. If enough parents register for coaching our senior coach will run a coaching clinic on the day as well – We need 1 coach and 1 manager per team.

DETAILS:

When: Wednesday 9th March, 2016 (tentative date – to be confirmed by NNH, back-up date is March 16th.)

Where: NNH Netball Courts, Northcote Road

Times:

College Girls Yrs 9 – 13 – 1pm – 2pm

Primary & Intermediate Boys & Girls – 2pm – 3pm

You do not need to already be signed up for Netball 2016 to participate in the Open Day as there will opportunities and encouragement to join a team on the day.

Although you are welcome to just turn up on the day, to help with planning & preparation we would really appreciate as many people as possible registering in advance to attend the Open Day.  Open Day registrations should be emailed to Nina at – learn2getha@gmail.com

If you already know that you want to play netball this year please email learn2getha@gmail.com to join a team ASAP. Don’t wait for the Open Day. The sooner teams are organized the better.
