The Incredible Edible Book Day Event 2021

Edible Book Day: You really can have your book … & eat it too!

What is it?

The International Edible Book Festival is an annual event commonly held on or around April 1st, which is also known as Edible Book Day. The global event has been celebrated since 2000 in various parts of the world, where “edible books” are created, displayed, and small events are held. The creations are photographed and then…consumed!

Yes, for all homeschoolers! AHE has been running Edible Book Day events for several years, and HASCA joined them in 2018 & 2019. We love it! It’s super fun and an awesome way to create community and form friendships whilst sharing scrumptious food!

It’s so simple: Create! Show! Share! ❤ Get your creative juices flowing!

In 2021, HASCA’s Edible Book Day will be ‘upgraded’ to The Incredible Edible Book Day Event! It will take place at the HASCA Hub (North Shore YMCA) on Thursday, 6th May (that’s the first week of term 2) and you are all invited! We will do a whole lot more than just create book-themed food & share it. We’ll dress up as our favourite book characters, we’ll make an edible craft, we’ll participate in a fun book quiz, & we’ll have an absolute blast together!

It’s so simple … CREATE!  SHOW!  SHARE!

Choose a book (character or scene from a book) and recreate it as food!

  • Your creation could even be related to the title, a character, or the theme of the book you choose!
    Get creative and have fun!
  • On the day, bring along your wonderful creation and your book too (if you have it).
  • All the edible books will be displayed and then we will EAT OUR WORDS (we eat our creations) … A SHARED FEAST!

This is a non-competitive family event.
It’s all about sharing good books, creative ideas, interesting and fun food … and creating community!

CAUTION: The following images may get your creative juices flowing!
As a result you will have an overwhelming desire to enter The Incredible Edible Book Day Event 2021!

HASCA subsidises this event in order to keep the costs low, however, we ask that each child/entrant brings along a can of food or pantry item (which can be made into wholesome meals). All food items are donated to Sunday Blessings, a volunteer organisation which serves up hot meals to the homeless in Auckland city each week.
