IMPORTANT: Homeschooling Exemptions & HASCA
As an incorporated organisation, HASCA has a constitution that states that all HASCA members are required to be MoE approved (‘exempt’) homeschoolers. In New Zealand, parents and caregivers who want to educate any child aged 6+ at home (‘homeschool’) need to first get approval from their local Ministry of Education (MoE) office by applying for a homeschooling exemption. You can find out about the MoE’s exemption process here. If your child is aged 6+ and you do NOT have a current homeschooling exemption issued by the Ministry of Education (MoE), please email hasca.nz@gmail.com to discuss your membership application. If your child is under 6 and you are currently homeschooling them (with an exemption being planned, processed, or currently under review by the MoE office), your membership is welcome; however, please file your exemption number with HASCA once you have received it from MoE.

If you do not hold an exemption or meet any of the above, HASCA has the right to decline your membership application and return your fee. HASCA does not accept students into our teams and programmes if they are studying through a ‘registered school’ (which includes most online study options) unless they are from a longstanding member family and known to our executive. Members holding an exemption to home educate best falls in line with our constitution. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact us at hasca.nz@gmail.com to discuss before completing the online form; thank you.
