About HASCA

Who are we?

Homeschool Auckland Sport and Cultural Association  Incorporated, more commonly known as HASCA, is an incorporated society that was set up by North Shore home educating parents in 2002 to promote and unite home educating families – throughout greater Auckland – in sports, learning, and educational and cultural events.

HASCA was originally set up in March 2002 when Auckland Secondary Schools Headmaster’s Association (ASSHA) did not allow our secondary school basketball teams (or individuals playing for a school) to compete in the secondary school competitions administered by North Harbour Basketball, on behalf of the ASSHA. One of the parents was elected to the board of North Harbour Basketball, which resulted in our teams being allowed to enter these competitions.

As an incorporated society, HASCA has the very important advantage of being able to apply for grants to subsidise our activities.

Over the years, we have undertaken (and supported) many sport, educational, and cultural events, such as:

  • Our many Netball teams & Basketball teams
  • Homeschool Hockey team & Touch Rugby
  • Family sports day for all ages
  • Days at MERC – Sir Peter Blake Marine Education & Recreation Centre
  • Overnight Camp with Outdoor Pursuits
  • Our fabulous Family Ball , and Rainbow’s End Fun Days
  • The amazing Art Festival featuring our own choir and dance groups, and various music, singing, dance and drama activities
  • Classes such as; Film, Economics, Drama and Speech, Art, Music, Woodwork & Sculpture, Pottery
  • RoboClub – LEGO® Mindstorms® and Classic K’nex®
  • Basketball Skills Coaching Programme and Gymnastics
  • Choir “Homeschool Harmonies” and Ukulele group
  • Homeschool Kapahaka Group and Te Reo Maori Classes
  • Swimming, Sports & Athletics Programmes
  • Sewing Programme
  • Arts, English, and Dance Classes
  • HASCA Homeschool Library

These activities are made possible because of the enthusiastic efforts of home educators like you. If you have an initiative that would benefit home educators, how about talking with us to see if we can work together to make it a reality for others!
