Winter Netball 2013 – express your interest NOW

Calling all keen NETBALLERS!!

Netball is a great way for your children to meet other homeschoolers, share interests, get some exercise, learn “team play” and pick up some new skills along the way. It’s a lot of fun too …for the players and the parents!

HASCA has been coordinating netball for home educated students for over 10 years.

WINTER COMP 2013 – INFORMATION

HASCA will be entering teams into the Netball North Harbour ‘Schools’ Comp again this year. The Winter Competition runs for 14-weeks throughout Terms 2 and 3. Usually with 7-weeks of grading games followed by 7-weeks of competition games. Games are played on various weekdays and Saturday mornings at the Netball North Harbour Courts (or AMI Netball Centre), Onewa Road, Northcote. Players do not need to have played netball before, some ball skills would obviously be advantageous. Lower grades are open to boys & girls.

Year 4 & 5 age *8 & 9yrs …play on Monday afternoons from 4pm

ear 6 age *10yrs …play on Wednesday afternoons from 4pm

Year 7 & 8 age *11 & 12yrs …play on Thursday afternoons from 4pm

Year 9 & up age *13yrs+ …play on Saturday mornings

*approximate ages only

Most of our teams have a policy of holding weekly training sessions an hour or so before each game (to avoid extra trips for busy families) generally meeting at around 2:30pm at the NNH courts. Obviously this is largely dependent on what time slot we are given for our games by NNH, and also the individual coaches and what suits them best (and what suits the team).

COACH, MANAGER OR UMPIRE – WHICH ARE YOU?

Each team needs a coach, a manager and an umpire (provided for each game played). We have been fortunate to already have several coaches lined up (the wonderful people who coached last year are returning …thank you!!!) but would love to hear from any teens or parents who maybe interested in umpiring, or any of the above. Our umpires to receive ‘pocket money’ for their time. Note: Training & support is given to parent coaches and managers (and there are various umpiring courses available) through NNH.

NETBALL FEES – WINTER COMP

(Runs throughout terms 2& 3)

NNH Subs are usually around $85 – $100 per player, depends on team numbers

HASCA uniform [use] fee $20 per individual or $30 per family This fee assists HASCA to upgrade equipment each year and to replace uniforms as needed. After ten years some are tired- general wear and tear. In 2010, we purchased new netball skirts, tops, and bibs, for our two intermediate teams & will continue to upgrade our teams’ uniforms.

HASCA membership fee (Jan-Dec) $15 per family per year All players will need to be HASCA members please. Please note: The HASCA uniform fee is payable just once (per sport) in a calendar year. This means, if your child plays in both the competitive Winter Netball Comp (terms 2 & 3) and the social Twilight Netball Comp (term 4), the fees will only be collected once. NNH do have a separate fee structure for each of their competitions. All fees will be payable to HASCA at least three weeks prior to the commencement of the competition.

PLEASE EMAIL ME NOWif you are a keen netballer OR a parent keen to assist with coaching/management OR a parent or teen willing to umpire a team for the season. Sandra at hasca.nz@gmail.com or sandy.andy@xtra.co.nz Email your child’s full name, age, DOB, & your child’s previous netball experience (if any).

POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY FOR YR1/YR2/YR3 NETBALLERS We may be in a position to offer netball to younger boys and girls this year (years 1- 3) playing in the Kidzplay Netball Competition. Games in this ‘schools’ competition are played at Pinehurst School, Albany, on Saturday mornings during terms 2 & 3. Obviously this is very much dependant on interest (how many keen kiddies we get) and volunteers! Expressions of interest to me asap please. Thanks. Lastly, it is important to note that teams (in any of the grades mentioned above) will only ‘happen’ if we get enough age-specific players …and of course, a coach/manager/umpire for each team. We need commitment from all the right people to make things happen!

HASCA HOCKEY – Summer Hockey Opportunity

HASCA HOCKEY UPDATE
This year HASCA has been proud to support a BOYS HOCKEY TEAM under its umbrella. The 6 aside boys hockey team is compiled of year 5/6 boys, coached and managed by Dean Haythornthwaite.

Players: Ben Colquhoun, Craig Evans, Ryan Evans, Luke Edwards, Asher Haythornthwaite, Matthew Copeland and Sam Hornblow.

As with our netball teams this year, our hockey players are making a name for themselves (in their competition) and really showing that we homeschoolers are a bit of a talented bunch. Here’s an update from (coach) Dean … We were coming second on the table until last week when we played the table leaders. Previously we had played them (Hauraki) twice resulting in a draw and a loss. This time the boys pulled out their best performance of the season to win 4-0. This puts us first equal with 2 championship games left in round three. We play Oteha Valley next Monday who are currently second, only 1 point behind us. Last time we played Oteha Valley they won 4-2 (we have lost two games all season Hauraki and Oteha Valley) so this is a must win game!

We’ll be sure to let you know how the season ends for our hockey players …and wish them all the very best!

Meantime, we’d like to say a huge thanks to Dean and Rachel Haythornthwaite for their vision and commitment to the HASCA Hockey team. Sincere thanks!

Dean would like to enter a team in the Summer Hockey (non competitive) Competition …so if any yr 5/6 boys or girls are interested in playing summer hockey please contact Dean Haythornthwaite via email dean@viadesign.co.nz

The Summer Hockey runs from 31st October, to 12th December. Monday nights around 5.30pm.
