HASCA Netball Teams

HASCA Homeschool Netball

Keen to play or get involved in HASCA netball in 2024? Complete the expression of interest form.
IMPORTANT: Review HASCA’s membership and sports teams eligibility criteria at Join HASCA.

HASCA has been coordinating and supporting homeschool sports teams since 2002! We enter homeschool teams into Netball North Harbour Competitions, which play at the Barfoot & Thompson Netball Centre in Northcote, on Auckland’s North Shore. Our homeschool teams compete against local Primary, Intermediate, and College school teams. *Check Years of Schooling in New Zealand here to check your child’s grade/year.

Terms 2 & 3: The inter-school Winter Competitions run in terms 2 & 3; these are competitive but fun!

Terms 1 & 4: Netball North Harbour’s Social Leagues – Summer & Spring – run in terms 1 & 4.

Our HASCA homeschool netball team entries are based on interest and the number of children wanting to play within each grade/year. On occasion, we may combine two grades to ensure team entry but will only do this if the age range and experience are suitable and approved by NNH’s Games Committee. (If we have a mixed team covering two grades, the team will usually need to play up in the higher grade.)

TEAMS DON’T HAPPEN UNLESS PARENTS MAKE THEM HAPPEN! Parent contribution is key. Like most schools and clubs, HASCA netball team formation is highly dependent on parental support: each team must have a coach, manager, and an umpire, so we do need your support to make our teams happen! (An umpire may be an experienced older student or an adult.)

Training & Practices: All teams hold practices once a week to fit in with coach and player availability. Often teams train prior to games at NNH’s Northcote courts.

Location: All games are played at Netball North Harbour’s AMI Netball Courts on Northcote Road about 100m from the Northcote off-ramp.

Coaches & Managers: All HASCA teams rely on volunteer coaches and managers, usually older teens or parents. All new coaches will be given the opportunity to attend a coaching workshop.

Coordinator for HASCA Netball (support person needed): Nina is currently overseeing this role but would love another to come on board to work alongside her and eventually take on the role. This role will see you take registrations (for the winter season, which runs usually from the end of April, in terms 2&3), and get any homeschool netball teams up and running prior to the season and liase with Netball North Harbour as and when required; from then on, it is a background support role. Email Nina at hasca.nz@gmail.com if you would like to know more or be considered for the role.

HASCA Support: HASCA provides support with team registration, provision of sports team uniforms and training gear, and subsidised fees when possible.

Important: All HASCA sports team members and support people must be from a HASCA member family and therefore hold a homeschooling exemption.

NETBALL SKILLS SESSIONS AT THE HASCA HUB: There is a fun weekly ‘Netball Skills & Drills’ class that runs as part of the HASCA Hub Programme on Thursdays at the North Shore YMCA. Members’ children are most welcome to join the class if they wish to upskill or just have fun playing netball with friends. The HASCA Hub Programme runs on Thursdays for 7 to 8 weeks each term and also offers KiwiSports, Basketball Skills, and many other wonderful classes and activities.
