Phonics & Literacy Skills for Young Learners ages 6-8 

WHAT: A class for children approximately aged 6 – 8 who are at the early stages of reading and writing typical of students in school years 1 – 3.

WHEN: Thursdays 12:00pm – 1:00pm, 8 weeks commencing 30/07/20 in term 3

WHERE: HASCA Hub (Rendle Room), YMCA North Shore, 5 Akoranga Drive, Auckland

HOW MUCH: $50.00 per term ($5.00 discount available for 2020 HASCA members)

ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME: This class will focus on providing an understanding of phonics to assist with reading writing and spelling and will encourage children to have a go at writing for themselves.

Using tried and true methods of reading and listening to great stories, phonics memorization, handwriting, copy-work and basic sentence writing to help young learners grow in confidence.

Minimum level for those wanting to join this class:
* Must be able to recognize, name and write the letters of the alphabet.
* Must know the short sounds of letters
* Must be able to copy letters, words and sentences.

Nina’s English & Art classes run weekly on Thursdays at the North Shore YMCA as part of the HASCA HUB programme.

HASCA does not directly run these classes but is very happy to recommend, promote, and support this programme. Nina is a homeschooling parent, and a HASCA member and executive.
