Dance: Ballet

Debbie de Beer Dance Academy ~ Homeschool Classes

ballet slippersDebbie de Beer is offers home educated children and teens the opportunity to participate in daytime ballet classes of various levels: toddlers to teens. Classes are for boys & girls.

Debbie’s approach is to inspire children to love ballet and musical expression rather than to meet grading requirements or sit exams. Therefore, the focus of these class is on teaching beginner level ballet skills and techniques, musicality, co-ordination and performance in a fun and non-pressure way.

As well as learning the fundamentals of ballet through fun and relaxed dance exercises, children will also work towards a performance for the end of the year, to show family and friends all that they have learned.

This is a great way for children to dip their toes in and have a go.

The following classes are offered as part of the “HASCA Hub” programmes which run on Thursdays in the North Shore YMCA dance studio (situated at 5 Akoranga Drive in Northcote). These classes are for home educated students of all ages: boys and girls! Join us!

Ballet with Debbie can be just for fun and to learn some great techniques or those interested can work towards Performance Awards as part of the American Academy of Ballet syllabus.

American Performance Awards are a classical ballet syllabus taught over 12 levels from age 5 upwards. Debbie co-ordinates the American Performance Awards in New Zealand and Australia. Please feel free to talk more with Debbie about this.

REFERENCE: My 7 year old daughter started ballet with Deborah in term 3 last year age 6.5. She absolutely loves it and thinks Mrs. de Beer is really nice. She had desperately wanted to learn ballet but our previous investigations had only found classes for beginners aged  3 – 5 years. As a mother I was looking for informal, affordable and no pressure ballet classes so that my daughter could have fun learning all the same core ballet techniques with girls her own age,  without the pressure of grading exams and without the cost of a new uniform every 6  – 12 months. Deborah’s classes have met our needs perfectly. N. Lawgun
