HASCA Sewing

After 4 fantastic years of sewing classes we farewell this programme. Term 4 will be the last term.
Our sincerest thanks to Lynn-Marie of Sew Inspired for her dedication to homeschool sewing!

Homeschool Sewing Programme

HASCA coordinates and supports the Homeschool Sewing Programme which commenced in term 3, 2015, and continues to run for six weeks each term. The classes are coordinated by Lizelle D’Costa and taught weekly by Lynn-Marie Young of Sew Inspired.

Lynn-Marie has always offered sewing lessons to our home educated community; she provides excellent tuition, mixed with patience and lots of encouragement. Her home studio is decked out for a creative, relaxed, and fun learning experience.

Sew Inspired primarily offers sewing classes to girls (particularly the after school programmes – this is mostly due to interest), however Lynn-Marie has some fun unisex sewing projects which will be enjoyed by homeschooled boys and girls wanting to learn to sew!

Lessons take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at Sew Inspired’s studio in Torbay (Clensmore Place), on Auckland’s North Shore. The sewing studio is modern and bright with pleasant surroundings; it accommodates five students maximum per class (small class numbers allow individual attention) and provides modern sewing machines and equipment.

There are two homeschool sewing classes weekly – Tuesdays and Wednesdays – which cater to a variety skills and abilities: beginners through intermediate.

The programme offers sewing tuition primarily to home educated children aged 9 to 13 years, however older students (up to age 17 years) are welcome if at beginner to intermediate skill level. (This particular programme does not cater for advanced sewing students.)

The students undertake projects of choice each term from a varied selection: craft, soft toys, pillows, pencil cases, various bags, aprons, and simple clothing items utilizing user-friendly patterns: skirts, shirts, shorts, long pants etc. The sewing students have the option of using “Kids Can Sew” patterns (which can be purchased from Lynn-Marie), or a selection of patterns offered by Sew Inspired. There are many creative craft projects on offer, and hand sewing too.

Electric sewing machines and equipment are provided for student use during class.

Most haberdashery, fabric, and patterns are included, this depends on the project selected by individual students.

Please note: HASCA membership is required to participate in this programme at the member rates, thank you.
