Intermediate Visual Arts with Ruby

WHAT: This class is for intermediate-aged home educated students, approx. ages 11 to 13 years.

WHEN: Thursdays 2:00pm -3:00pm, 6 weeks commencing 15/10/20 in term 4 ❌FULL❌

WHERE: HASCA Hub (Rendle Room), YMCA North Shore, 5 Akoranga Drive, Auckland

HOW MUCH: Cost is dependent on numbers but we anticipate it will be no more than $55 per student. Materials are additional. $5 discount for HASCA members.

We have an exciting program planned which is a little different that what we’ve done before. Instead of focussing on drawing and painting skills, we’ll be experimenting with lino-printing.

We’ll be looking at the influence of cultural ideas related to New Zealand on Kiwi artists. This will include things such as natural/native forms and Maori/Pacific Island-inspired designs. To this end, we’ll be introducing students to two key Kiwi artists who are highly regarded in the field of printmaking.

We will learn cutting techniques and the inking processes required to make our own lino print series.

Using NZ artists Michel Tuffery and Dagmar Dyck we’ll be exploring how these artists have responded to our beautiful country in their use of printmaking materials and techniques.

[For those in Nina’s CENZ Foundation & the NCEA Level 1 group, you will have the choice of continuing on with your folio work under Nina’s guidance or undertaking this unit with the rest of the students.]

TUTOR / COORDINATOR: This class is facilitated by home educated student Ruby Dawson, supported by Nina Lawgun. Ruby is currently working towards NCEA Level 3 Scholarship art. She enjoys encouraging younger students and sharing her knowledge and passion of drawing and painting.
