Intermediate Visual Arts with Ruby

WHAT: This class is for intermediate-aged home educated students, approx. ages 11 to 13 years.

WHEN: Thursdays 2:00pm -3:00pm, 9 weeks commencing 23/07/20 in term 3

WHERE: HASCA Hub (Rendle Room), YMCA North Shore, 5 Akoranga Drive, Auckland

HOW MUCH: Cost is dependent on numbers but we anticipate it will be no more than $65 per student. Materials are additional.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME: This class introduces students to the media and techniques of fine arts. Students will learn:

  • to draw from direct & photographic observation
  • to produce tonal pencil drawings to depict 3D form
  • to blend, highlight & show tonal gradation using pencils, coloured pencils & acrylic paints
  • to use mixed media techniques to produce resolved works
  • to consider artist models and observe their art making techniques & apply them to their own works
  • to produce a body of work across the term in accordance with a thematic idea

In term 3 we will be looking at NZ art & artists and the influence of culture, nature and location on their art.

Artworks in term 3 will explore Maori art-making traditions, native NZ flora and fauna & the scenery which is unique to our beautiful country.

TUTOR / COORDINATOR: This class is facilitated by home educated student Ruby Dawson, supported by Nina Lawgun. Ruby is completing NCEA Level 3 Scholarship art this year. She enjoys encouraging younger students and sharing her knowledge and passion of drawing and painting.
