2021 THEME: ANIMALS IN ART This year we are looking at how animals have been depicted in art. Each week we will first learn about a variety of art and artists for ten to fifteen minutes, then we will use a number of different mediums to produce our own artwork using techniques or styles similar to or inspired by the week’s topic.

Foundation Visual Arts is a beginner’s introduction to fine arts suited to those aged 11 – 14 with an interest in learning some fine arts techniques and growing their understanding of art, artists and art media. No prior experience is required. This class will have a small weekly homework component. Each term we will explore a variety of media techniques and artists who have a particular genre or subject matter in common in their art.

Foundation Visual Arts with Nina

This class is an introduction to fine arts suited to those aged 12+ with an interest in learning art techniques and growing their understanding of art, artists and art media. This class will have a small weekly homework component. Each term we will explore a variety of media techniques and artists who have a particular genre or subject matter in common in their art. No prior experience is required but as students will be learning fine arts techniques they do need to be able to listen and follow instructions.

Students will be introduced to artist techniques and subject matter while focusing on developing skills and confidence in the use of paint & coloured media. They will also continue developing their core drawing and observational skills as they use the media to explore the use of subject matter, line, tone, perspective, and depth, within a composition. As part of this we we’ll be looking at how specific artists purposefully use media to achieve their desired outcome, mimicking their techniques and applying them to our own ideas and subject matter.

Senior Fine Art with Nina

The Senior Fine Art programme is for students aged 15+ or mature & confident 14-year-olds who have completed at least a year in a foundation level year 9-10 art class or who have a particular interest in fine arts and want to take their art further & build on their existing skillset & use of media techniques. Students will be extended and challenged through the use of new media techniques, artist models, and art-making ideas.

Those students who are interested in the possibility of earning credits for either NCEA or CENZ, will be guided & given support as they make preparations towards their end goal. These pathways are not compulsory, but optional.

This year we will look at the influences of Dada, Surrealism and Expressionism on contemporary art and learn to produce composite artworks of our own which reflect these influences across different fields of art. For more information, you are welcome to contact Nina at art.englishwithnina@gmail.com.
